Duplicates

Two subscriptions, one service, nobody noticed

It takes one reinstall on a new phone, or one offer taken on a website while an old store subscription is still running.

The reason nobody notices is structural. The store charge and the direct charge appear in different places, on different dates, often under different merchant names. Neither view contains the other, so neither looks wrong.

The three ways it happens

A new phone

The app is reinstalled and signed up for again, because the old subscription was on an account tied to a device that is now in a drawer.

A better offer

A discount on the provider's own site is taken while the store subscription continues, because cancelling the old one was a separate task for later.

A household

Two people in one home each start a plan for the same service, each assuming the other has not.

Why one list finds it

What makes the comparison possible

  • Reads a screenshot of your banking app, App Store, Google Play, PayPal or an e-mail receipt
  • Lists every recurring charge it finds, with the service, price and billing cycle

Several screenshots go in — bank, store, PayPal — and come out as one list. A duplicate that was invisible across three separate screens is two adjacent lines with the same service name.
